Church pews for the restaurant

The first month and a bit have been hectic with transferring services, refurbishing the "Big House" (the girl's name for the Lake House), and trying to figure out everything we need to do.

Rob has been very understanding and gone out of his way to help us in the transition. …some of the services have not been easy to transfer. Thank-you again Rob.

Last week Mandi spotted some used 12' church pews for $10 a piece. We checked out the measurements and found they'd fit really well in the restaurant. So my good friend Dave and I borrowed a 20' trailer from my father-in-law and headed to Spokane to buy some.

We wanted six, which worked well because the others were in pretty bad shape; the tarp they were under hadn't protected them well from the weather. It was back breaking work with just the two of us, but we eventually got the best ones stacked on the trailer. I managed to remove a nice chunk from my shin when I slid on the snow and slammed into the side of the trailer. By the time we got back to the resort I had a nice bloody spot on the front of my jeans.

Loading had been hard; unloading was worse. With the pews being 12' long we had to take them in through the french doors on the deck. To get them on the deck we had to get them over the railing. Our arms and backs were sore after that.

Now we have them in the restaurant I'm glad we put in the effort. They need a professional upholstery cleaner to give them a good going over and to add some kind of a fabric guard, then they're going to work really well. We may have to recover them at some point, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
